eMobility as the Main Theme – The Future Arrives at AUTO/MOBIL Basel 2024
eMobility has undoubtedly entered the mainstream, especially since the rise of Elon Musk’s Tesla. AUTO/MOBIL Basel 2024 showcases over 30 car brands and approximately 270 vehicles, offering a comprehensive look at the future and the innovative present of the automotive world. streetwheelz1 has explored the free auto show, which takes place from September 6th to 8th, 2024, at the St. Jakobshalle.

Big names are well-represented at the show, including Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar/Land Rover, VW, Jeep, and, of course, Tesla, to name just a few. There will be 20 premieres at AUTO/MOBIL Basel 2024. Visitors will get their first look at models like the Abarth 500e, the updated VW ID.3, and the fully electric Jeep Avenger.
It’s interesting to see how early or late different brands got involved with eMobility or went all-in. VW was already active in 2013, while Jeep, as a latecomer, only made the leap 10 years later. But as the saying goes, better late than never.

Of course, not every car enthusiast is a fan of electric or hybrid vehicles. Despite good intentions to reduce air pollution, there are still various challenges with electric motors, starting with the problematic extraction of lithium and the sheer amount of electricity needed for mass production. Still, the future is visiting AUTO/MOBIL Basel 2024. Visitors can test drive some cars, sit in them, and closely inspect each model. Admission to the show is free for all visitors.

Even upon entering St. Jakobshalle, visitors are greeted impressively. Several models line the entrance, including Porsche’s second fully electric vehicle after the Taycan: the Porsche Macan from the 2024 lineup (630 HP, up to 470 kW), one of the most powerful electric SUVs out there. Later, the police are waiting for visitors with their patrol vehicle—not for arrests, but rather for a fun photo opportunity for the younger visitors.
